Why This Site Exists
Florida treats most jail and inmate information as public, so the records are usually out there somewhere. The tricky part is knowing where to look, because the answer depends on who is holding the person. The DeSoto County Sheriff's Office runs the local jail roster, which covers people awaiting trial and those serving short county sentences. Once someone is sentenced to state time, their record shifts over to the Florida Department of Corrections locator, which is a completely different tool. People held on federal charges or immigration matters turn up in still other systems run by the Bureau of Prisons and Immigration and Customs Enforcement. We collect those rosters, locators, facility contacts, visitation rules, and records request steps and organize them in one place.
What You Will Find Here
The pages on this site are built around the questions people actually ask after an arrest. Here is what we cover:
- Plain guidance on locating someone in custody, including jail inmate records, jail roster mugshots, and court records after a jail arrest.
- A dedicated page for each detention facility in DeSoto County, covering the county jail along with the state prison, work camp, and the civil commitment center, each with its address, phone number, and visitation details.
- Walk-through help for using the county jail roster and the statewide inmate locator, so you know what to type and where to click.
- Directions for requesting a booking record or a mugshot, plus a realistic sense of how long a response can take.
What We Cannot Do
We want to be clear about our limits. This is a privately run reference site. We are not connected to any Florida sheriff's office, jail, the Department of Corrections, or any other government agency, and we do not work on their behalf. Because of that, there are several things we simply cannot do:
- We cannot release, hold, or transfer anyone who is in custody.
- We cannot post bond, set up a visit, or send money to an inmate for you.
- We cannot offer legal advice of any kind.
- We cannot promise that every phone number, fee, or address listed here is current.
Only the sheriff's office or the Department of Corrections can confirm whether someone is currently in custody, what they are charged with, or when they may be released. We can point you to the correct roster, but the official answer always has to come from the agency that holds the record.
Search Partners
Some of our pages include search boxes that are powered by outside companies, and those companies set their own prices and decide what their tools return. If one of those tools leads you to a paid signup, we may receive a referral fee. Those fees are what allow us to keep this site free to use. We do not set the pricing for those services and we do not control the results they show you.
